Parent & Athlete Information

Everything You Need to Get Started

Registration

All GYBA registrations are completed online through TeamSnap. This includes House League registration and Rep Program tryout registration.

Equipment

Players should bring athletic shoes, comfortable athletic clothing, and a water bottle. GYBA provides basketballs for program participants.

Schedules

Schedules vary by team, division, gym availability, and season. Final locations and times are typically confirmed closer to the start of each program.

Coaching & Volunteering

Help Build Youth Basketball in Guelph

GYBA is always looking for dedicated coaches and volunteers to support youth basketball in Guelph. No basketball experience is required for House League coaching. Coaches may have the opportunity to participate in an on-court workshop.

Creating a Safe, Respectful Environment

GYBA is committed to creating a safe, respectful, and positive basketball environment. All athletes, coaches, parents, spectators, and volunteers are expected to support fair play, sportsmanship, respect, and inclusion.

Athletes Are Expected To

  • Participate for the love and enjoyment of the game
  • Respect teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators
  • Give their best effort
  • Follow the rules of the game
  • Represent GYBA positively

Parents & Spectators Are Expected To

  • Support all athletes positively
  • Respect coaches, officials, volunteers, and opponents
  • Avoid negative comments from the sidelines
  • Remain in spectator areas
  • Help create a constructive and encouraging environment

Coaches Are Expected To

  • Be positive role models
  • Reward effort, fair play, and commitment
  • Respect the differences of each athlete
  • Support the physical and emotional well-being of players
  • Communicate in a positive and respectful manner

Every Player Has the Right To

Players are responsible for attending practices, arriving prepared, working hard, showing respect, and taking ownership of their development.

Financial Assistance

Hoop Help — Basketball for Every Family

GYBA believes basketball should be accessible to families whenever possible.

Families receiving funding support through the Children's Foundation should complete their registration and then contact the GYBA Treasurer at treasurer@guelphbasketball.com for assistance.

If an athlete is not eligible for external funding programs, GYBA also offers its own financial assistance initiative, Hoop Help. To learn more about eligibility and available support, please contact administration@guelphbasketball.com.

Resources FAQs

The House League Program is a recreational program focused on skill development, participation, and fun for players of all skill levels. The Rep Program is a competitive program that requires athletes to participate in tryouts and compete against teams from across Ontario.
